Mit seinem symbolträchtigen Salzmarsch von Ahmedabad nach Dandi im Jahr 1930 setzte Mahatma Gandhi ein Zeichen des Widerstandes und ebnete Indien den Weg in die Unabhängigkeit.
81 Jahre später begab sich der deutsche Fotograf und Filmemacher Patrick Ranz gemeinsam mit dem Dokumentar-Filmemacher Alexander Hirl und einem schlichten Vorhaben in den Nordwesten Indiens: sie wollten den Salzweg nach Vorbild Gandhis gehen. Patrick Ranz, geboren 1979 in München, dokumentiert seit seinem 10. Lebensjahr sein Leben mit der Kamera. Schon als Kind bereiste er mit seinen Eltern und Geschwistern unterschiedliche Teile der Welt. So war die Begeisterung von klein auf für fremde Kulturen und Menschen gesät. 2005 machte er seine Leidenschaft zum Beruf und arbeitet seitdem als freier Fotograf und Kameramann, u.a. für BMW, Audi und Jungheinrich.

Als Filmemacher hat er sich auf Corporate-, Reise- und Dokumentarfilme spezialisiert, fotografisch ist die Reise-, Auto- und Portraitfotografie sein Steckenpferd. Mit dem Versuch so viele Fremdsprachen wie möglich zu lernen, öffnet er sich Türen und Herzen auf seinen Reisen.
2011 schließlich erfüllte sich Patrick Ranz gemeinsam mit dem Filmemacher Alexander Hirl, den langgehegten Traum, den Salzmarsch nach Vorbild von Mahatma Gandhi selbst zu gehen.
